In conventional identity systems, like centralised databases or social media profiles, individuals often surrender control of their data to third-party organisations. On the other hand, SSI empowers individuals to create and manage their digital identities independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decentralisation is a fundamental principle of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI). It utilises decentralised technologies, such as blockchain or distributed ledger technology, to securely store and manage an individual's identity attributes, such as their name, date of birth, or credentials. The secure storage is achieved without a central authority, thereby eliminating the reliance on a single centralised database. On the other hand, SSI utilises a decentralised network of nodes or participants to enhance security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interoperability is a critical aspect of SSI. SSI systems are designed to ensure interoperability across different platforms, services, and organisations. This means that individuals can use their SSI credentials to access multiple services without creating separate accounts and sharing personal data with each service. This helps minimise the need for unnecessary data sharing and improves user convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To enhance trust in digital interactions, SSI has implemented a system of verifiable credentials. Credentials are issued by reliable entities such as government agencies, educational institutions, or banks. These credentials are also cryptographically signed. Furthermore, SSI places a high priority on privacy by minimising the sharing of unnecessary personal information.
